Sicogon Island
Philippines is a perfect summer destination they say; with over 7,641 islands to explore, famous islands and beaches comes to mind like El Nido(Palawan), Boracay (Aklan),Panglao (Bohol), Bantayan (Cebu)and Siargao in Surigao del Norte;But among these is a hidden paradise in the waters of Northern Iloilo.
Sicogon Island in Carles, Iloilo is the best hideaway for me so far. I had doubts at first whether to join the travel or not because it has a recondite information but luckily I did!It was a blissful experience, When we arrived at Brgy. Buaya Beach,the locals were friendly and approachable, nature was untouched,the place had a peaceful ambiance and you can really have that quality time with your friends or family for they didn't had electricity and WiFi. Houses are powered using solar energy at night and some families have generator to use.
Locals accommodates guests, they have tents you can rent for the day or over night or a small cottage good for 6 (200 pesos pax, pillows and beddings included, same rate for tents). You can also buy fresh seafood and have it cooked ( 50 or 100 peso charge). You can also try climbing Mt. Opao (1-2 hrs hike) with the spectacular view of the whole island and Northern Iloilo.
What I really love about Sicogon is the place itself, especially the vast sky with thousands of stars sparkling with the moonlight meeting the ocean. The long white sand beach, the clear turquoise ocean, the serene sunset, and also the thrilling experience walking to the small island across (Tumaquin Island) while the tide is low (sea urchins inhabit the middle part of the path) and it's very own seashell beach.
